Below is the Collect for the Fourth Sunday in Advent from the Order of Worship for the Reformed Church in the United States.
Once again it differs from that found in The Book of Common Prayer:
O Lord, raise up (we pray thee) thy power, and come among us, and with great might succor us; that whereas, through our sins and wickedness, we are sore let and hindered in running the race that is set before us, thy bountiful grace and mercy may speedily help and deliver us; through the satisfaction of thy Son our Lord, to whom with thee and the Holy Ghost be honor and glory, world without end. Amen.
The themes of each prayer, however, are consistent with each other: both ask for God to arise and show his power that we may persevere in God’s service so long as we live. This can only occur through the satisfaction or mediation of Jesus Christ, whose atoning sacrifice gives us access to the throne of the divine grace.
Third Sunday in Advent
THE COLLECT
ARISE, O LORD, we beseech Thee, and show unto us speedily the power of thy glorious salvation, that we, being redeemed from our sins, and delivered out of the hands of our enemies, may be enabled to serve Thee without fear, in holiness and righteousness before Thee, all the days of our life; through the mediation of thy Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to whom, with Thee and the Holy Ghost, be honor and glory, world without end. Amen.
